HEAVEN AND EARTH COLLIDE. HOLY. HELL. When 18-year-old Lindsey Foster and her mother unexpectedly inherit a beautiful Antebellum home in South Carolina, they think it will be an adventure, a new start. But the house has a dark past. When Lindsey uses a Gullah ritual board to contact the spirit playing tricks on her, something vicious is unleashed. What once seemed harmless is now malevolent and hell-bent on revenge. Tensions mount when Eli, a handsome and mysterious seminarian, moves into the guest room for the summer. The draw to him is immediate. And forbidden. As she fights her feelings for the young priest-in-training, Lindsey unravels the violent history of the house. With the help of paranormal Investigators and Eli’s brotherhood, she must find a way to end the haunting... Without damning both she and Eli to a hell greater than they ever imagined.

I read through the first thirty percent and I was on the verge of moving on to something else since this story was taking its own lazy time for anything interesting to happen. But then came the mystery of the smoke and I was hooked. I’m glad I did. It really is a fascinating story with a delectable romance once Eli strolls into he heart of the story and the regional attractions were fun to learn about, from the Boil (which I had never head of before this story, but randomly ran into in the following two stories I read immediately after this), to watching turtles hatch on the beach, even the raising of horses was fascinating considering how much of a city person I am. It seemed almost that the immediate problem of a ghost took the backseat to the romance, which I was personally fine with. What I objected to the most at the beginning was that it felt overly religious at times, though the story did tone it down after the ghosts made an appearance, still it did get a bit overwhelming at times further in, as well. (Sorry, I don’t expect religion in my spooky paranormals).

Still this story does cling and work its way in like the Spanish moss so prevalent at the Marla Rae. And it does mystify the mind that so few people have reviewed this book when I thought this was easily worth the 5 stars I’m giving it. I would easily recommend this to fans of paranormal romance with a dash of religion and Southern charm. Definitely not as sappy or clingy as Twilight, but maybe for fans more of Beautiful Creature, but more grounded in reality. (And those moments of reality did make it a magical experience, as well as the paranormal elements).

Not just a haunted house book. This is a story of a teenage girl who unwittingly becomes entrenched into a battle of good and evil, angels and demons. Good, fun read.
The last time that I fell in love with an author was Barbara Michaels - Ms. Martin has done it - made me a huge fan. I cannot wait for the sequel - can we pre-order?
Book 2 what the heck kind of ending was that hated the ending the Angel loses and the brat boy wins really will you finsh this story you just left it hanging
A friend told me about this book because we are both Walterboro residents and lovers of low country story's
This is a fast and easy read and I found myself looking forward to getting back, at first because of the Walterboro
Connection and then later because I found myself really invested in the characters. A sign of a really well crafted story
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did and I know what my friends are getting in their Easter Baskets
Harbinger, at first, seemed like a good story about a haunting. However, it is more than just that - Martin's descriptions are amazing, especially when she details the South Carolina area, as well as the house that LIndsay moves into.

The ghosts are spooky and the sections where they begin to haunt Lindsay are scary. But then events start to really spiral out of her control, especially when she meets Eli, an attractive boy who is MUCH more than he seems. This paranormal touch is nicely done, and I definitely was interested in the pair and their believable romance.

As well, I loved the villain, who is not just merely a bad person (or, perhaps, ghost) but who also has a reason for his madness. This addition rounded out the story nicely.
I have never written a review before but since this book was set in my home town I had to! I loved it and devoured it in one night. The characters were strongly fleshed out, the story line was well developed. A few details of the area were changed (at least to my knowledge) especially some names but I am sure that had to be done. But the story was pure Lowcountry. I hope there is another book coming, I will look forward to seeing more of this writer. And there is seldom anything set in my beautiful little town. I loved the classic good versus evil fight and the blend of belief types in the story line.
I bought the FIRST "Harbinger in the Mist" a few years ago. (on ) Bought the other "Harbinger in the Mist (Arms of Serendipity) a few weeks ago (again, on ) by mistake, thinking it was the 2nd in the trilogy. Appears to be the same story with "different words" ????
Now, could it be because these are editions, ( reading on a tablet as opposed to a physical book) that the grammar, spelling and punctuation stink? Also, there are just totally goofy things in the book(s) which may seen minor to most, but they stuck out like a sore thumb to me. Here are a few ex., like a male college freshman referring to his dad as "Daddy"! The FREQUENT overtures about "abortion" and referring to it is "baby killing" I thought was used too much. I came away from this part of the book as the author having a furtive agenda, rather than it being the choice of the characters using this term. . She frequently referred Darby as being a widower, even though the character is apparently female? Like I said, maybe to most it would go un-noticed, not to this reader.
The book seemed very "wordy" too, stretching out the description of something, as if to prepare the reader for an event. While at times, these lengthy decriptions gave were VERY successful. Giving the reader a sense of actually being in the environment she was describing. While too many others though, seemed more like a high school term paper that needed to be "3 pages, double spaced", using too many unnecessary words and paragraphs just to fill up a page.
Obviously, this is just my personal review, I'll read the Trilogy in its entirety because I like to finish what I started. I live in Walterboro, I realize the author lived here too at one time. Some of the descriptions of the town made it seem rather pathetic. I would not recommend this book to my book club in Charleston. I would reccomend this book for my book club in Walterboro, just because of the relevance to our town and its history.
