Jeremy Taylor (1613-67), chaplain to King Charles I and Bishop of Down and Connor, was known as the "Shakespeare of Divines" for the beauty of his devotional writing.
His chief claim to fame lies in his twin devotional manuals Holy Living and Holy Dying, which were admired by John Wesley for their spiritual useful and by Samuel Coleridge for their literary quality.
Holy Living and Dying edition by Jeremy Taylor Religion Spirituality eBooks
Profound theological, biblical, and practical demonstration of piety at a depth unseen in most spiritual writers today, and at time verbose, typical of Puritan, Anglican, and Pietist writers of his day. Jeremy Taylor catapulted John Wesley toward his own commitment to holiness and the love of God and neighbor, especially with the section on Purity of Intention. This is a long tome, full of meat, and much to ponder and pray though. Though, sections of it need to be re-interpreted and applied for today's audience, including the very many long prayers and King James English.Product details

Holy Living and Dying edition by Jeremy Taylor Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
If you're looking for insights to the spirituality of the 17th century, then you won't be disappointed. The section on a holy death is worth a read. It is pragmatic and wise.
The only thing I dislike about this particular publisher is the fact that some pages did not 'copy' clearly from the original text, so there are missing words at the edge of the page.
On the other hand it is an affordable version of a beautiful and fundamental religious text, made for the intelligent instead of the usual treacle that is doled out in modern religious works.
